In Biosciences, UCLA offers 18 Ph.D. programs in nine National Research Council (NRC)-designated disciplines. Click on the NRC disciplines to the left to see the Ph.D. programs offered in these disciplines. Individual NRC disciplines may be represented by multiple Ph.D. programs. Clicking on an individual Ph.D. program will give you the application information for that specific program.
Depending on the Ph.D. program, there are two different ways to apply. Some Ph.D. programs require applicants to apply directly to their specific department. Details of the process will be indicated on the webpages of these programs. All Ph.D. programs at UCLA are administered through UCLA's Graduate Division. The Graduate Division's website provides general information about graduate student policies. The majority of the Ph.D. programs offered in Biosciences are affiliated with an umbrella graduate admissions and first year program, called ACCESS to Programs in the Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Life Sciences. ACCESS allows students to experience research in different programs/disciplines during their first year of study. At the end of their first year, students in this program can choose the Ph.D. program that best suits their interests.
